Te Tuhi

Today class 2 had the opportunity to go to Te Tuhi. Te Tuhi is a art gallery for kids and adults. There are also lessons like dance class, art class, painting class and much more. The building is really large, but we only get in the art room and half of the art gallery. Jeremy was one of the teachers that took us on a tour. We create our own tapa.

There was four squares to draw your symbols. One square is a symbol for family, culture, interest and home. For my family a draw four smiley faces, for mum, dad, little brother and me. On the second squares for my culture I draw fifteen stars from the Cook Island flag.

The other square I also drawn a pencil for interest. The pen means my interest is art. The last square I drawed two sea shells for home. The two sea shell means I live near the beach.tapa.jpg

I Meet Robyn Lamont

On Friday, November 21st, I sketched one of Robyn Lamont inspiring art. It is called Sky Tower. I wanted to draw the Sky Tower, because I loved how she blended the colours together from light to dark. Also the mixture of patterns were amazing. Robyn Lamont inspired me a lot.

When I got to the part where I had to finish the sky. My teacher Mrs Langitupu surprised me. She asked if I wanted take a photo with Robyn Lamont in real life. Robyn Lamont was in another class teaching other students at our school. My art was not finish, but I was happy with it. All of people encouraged me along the way.

Halloween

Halloween

Wooooo! It’s the 31st of october. Guess what. It’s Halloween! If you're thinking what is Halloween, is it a person, is it a house. Well no, it’s a special event that was originally started in America.

It is often celebrated by kids dressing up in scary masks and costumes. Costumes like ghosts, vampires, zombies or devils. Maybe dress up as cartoon characters.

When kids are dress up, they go knocking on doors to say trick or treat. So people would give people treats like lollies.

                   HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Ban Plastic Bags!

Ban Plastic Bags!

Date: Tuesday 2nd September 2014

To: Prime Minister John Key

I have a complaint about plastic bags. I think that it should be banned, because in one year there are over 1 billion plastic bags that are being used in New Zealand. A lot of the plastic bags don’t even get recycled.

New Zealand is also known as a green country. That means keeping the environment clean is important. Once the plastic bags have been used and no longer wanted, a lot of people want to get rid of the plastic bags. A plastic bag floating in the air can lead to the roads, trees, sea and rivers.

Did you know when the plastic bags leads to the sea and rivers it can kill sea creatures? Such as turtles, sea lions and much more. To turtles they think that the plastic bag that are jellyfish surfing through the sea. So they attempt to eat the plastic bags, because to them they think it’s a jellyfish. Then the poor turtles choke on the plastic bag and die.

The wind will blow the plastic bags. Unfortunately the plastic bags will get stuck on the branches of the tree. Sadly some birds get caught in the plastic bags and gets trapped or hurt.

Instead of selling plastic bags, change them into paper bags or cloth bags just like in other countries. So that people can still use them over and over again (recycling).

As a Prime Minister what are you going to do about it?

Yours sincerely
Helen

School Holidays

The first week of the holidays, I woke up in a happy mood. Even though my holidays was early. I wanted to come back to school. I stayed at my nanas for the holidays.

There was a lot of things that happened in my holidays. I also learn some things in those two weeks. I learned about the first mobile phone and who invented them. I also learned about what is Herbalife and found facts about nutritious food. It gets better. Keep reading and you’ll find out.

I watched What Now on Sunday. Gem showed a picture of a girl named Helen Wright who made a dress out of loom bands. Instead of keeping the loom band dress, she sold the dress for $170,100 on eBay. I thought to myself, you can even buy a house with that much money. So that inspired me to create something with rainbow loom bands for the first week of my school holidays.

I sat down on my chair. Then I gathered all of my loom bands and placed them onto my desk. I drew a plan to see if any of my plans in my head could work before I start. My plan took longer than I thought. I had to do chores and help with housework. Finally I finished my plan. I have 3 ideas that can work.

I made a rainbow loom band ball. I thought it was outstanding. It could bounce. It took about 3 days for me to make the ball. Describing it, it’s really colourful and hard.
The second thing that I made with loom bands is a chain necklace. It took me 2 day to make. The loom band chain necklace look’s like a real chain. It’s more softer and just made out of loom bands. I even made a rainbow loom band flower. By describing the loom band flower, it’s colourful. It only has 4 petals with a stamen. The petals are hard, but the stamen is mushy and hard in the middle.

In the second week of my school holiday, It was all about health. I learned about Herbalife and what it does to you. Also facts about nutritious food. My cousin and I sometimes walk or drive down to Total Nutrition as known as Herbalife. The Total Nutrition we go to is located at Station road, Otahuhu. We go to Total Nutrition on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also have 24 fit challenge, it’s not only for adults. It’s also for kids. After 24 fit challenge we walk to the park.
My holidays was about mostly learning new things.

Teach at Tamki

Every Thursdays class 2, 4 and a half of class 1 walks down to Tamaki college for teach.

At teach there are 3 class. There’s Food Technology, Hard Materials and finally Graphics. Teach is not new for me, Because we had the same 3 class like last year. The only thing that’s cool is, This year is more FUN.

Last term (term 1) I was in Graphics. For Graphics our teacher is Mr Nobel. When you step in graphics class, you’ll see decks for people to create their design. Alot of art from people at Tamaki college or maybe art that Mr Nobel designed. Even though I was away for 2 months in Australia, I’ve developed a lot of new skills from Mr Nobel. He’s a creative teacher and he has a lot of experience for art.

This term (term 2) I’m in Food technology. In Food Technology our teacher is Ms Heka. She teaches us new and old recipes. Some of the recipes are easy to followed and kind of difficult too. It’s easy because I did Food technology last year. It’s difficult because there are some equipment that I don’t know. It’s really fun in food technology.

Next term I can’t wait to go to Hard Materials. The teacher for Hard Materials is Mr Grundy. I was in his class last year. He can be a bit grumpy only if you don’t listen or pay attention. Last year there was a lot of naughty boys that made Mr Grundy really grumpy. I think this year will be more better for Mr Grundy and us.

Statistics

In class 2, we created a surveys about everyones favourite colour, food, animal, sport and t.v shows. Once we finished gathering all of our information, we made a tally chart with our information from the survey. After making our tally chart, we made a bar chart or a pie chart. We used it from a site called

graph (10).jpg

This is a pie chart about class 2’s favorite colours.

By looking at this pie chart, we can really see that the most favourite colour in class 2 is blue by 14. The least favourite in class 2 is colour is green by 2.graph (1).jpg
Here is a bar chart about class 2’s favorite sports.

Once again by looking at the bar chart. We can see that the most favorite sport in class 2 is Rugby by 9. We can’t tell the difference about the least favorite sport because Netball, Touch and other sports are a tie by two.

graph (4).jpg

Now this is another bar chart about class 2’s favorite animals.

The most favorite animal in class 2 is dogs by 7. But really the most is the other animals by 10, because some people in class 2 like all sort’s of animals. Same thing again. We can’t really tell the differences between Lion’s and cat’s, because they have the same amount of number’s.

graph (6).jpg

This is a pie chart about class 2’s favorite food.

The most favorite food in class 2 is Butter chicken by 6.
The least favorite food in class 2 is Fried rice and Toffee by 1. You can’t really tell the difference about Fried rice and Toffee because they both have the same amount.

graph (8).jpg

Here’s a pie chart about class 2’s favorite T.v show.

The most favorite t.v show in class 2 is Regular show by 5. But really the most is the other t.v show by 7. Because people in class two like all sorts of t.v show. The least favorite t.v show in class 2 is Family guy and Neighbours by 1. We can’t really tell the difference between Family guy and Neighbours, because they have the same amount.

Try creating a graph. It’s fun.

Fia - fia

There are really exciting things at Point England School that we do every year in term one. We have Fia fia!
In Fia Fia kids at Point England School get into their culture groups like Hip hop and other groups. I’m in the senior Hip hop group for fia fia. Hip hop is a contemporary dance.

We have practices every Thursday afternoon. It starts at 2:00 to 3:00. That means it goes on for 1 hour. In practices we find songs to dance to and dance moves.

In every dance group, there will always be a tutor. Tutors can be your teacher’s, parent’s and families. Tutors are people who teach you dance moves for your dance. While you follow the instructors from your tutor, so that you can get it right the first time. In senior Hip hop our tutor is Miss King.

In our senior hip hop group, we’ve learnt some dance moves to half of the song. We learnt the moves from Levi and Mele. It’s really fun to learn the dance, but we have to put a little bit of effort in it. Hip hop is fun because I’m with my friends and the dance move’s are really interesting.

Last year I was in Cook island drumming. I was the only girl doing cook island drumming. I did Cook island so I can show that girls can do drumming too not just boys. This year is my last year doing Fia fia, so I joined senior hip hop with my friends to have fun and enjoy myself.

We have two groups for our senior hip hop, one for the  girls and one for the boys. We take parts of the song. We do this so we can find more dance moves faster. In our dance, there are movements, spanning, pointing, come forwards and backwards and hand movements.

Hip hop is really cool and fun. It’s good for exercise.
You never know you might like hip hop too.

What is it ? :
Sketchup is a design programme. It also designs 3D objects and things. It’s a drawing tool. I’ve used Sketchup in class and it’s pretty impressive.

Why is it special? :
Sketchup is special and is an interesting technology to use, because you can create anything in 3D. When you're finished with your design you can print it out as a 3D object.

Who uses it? :
Sketchup is used for Class 2 at Point England School. Also students, teachers, parents, designers and anyone all over the world can use it.

What it is used for? :
Some people use sketchup to create and build new inventions for the world, your class at school and as gifts. Some kids like to go on Sketchup to learn how to design toy figures and all sorts of things. So it gives them a good idea about what are they going to be in the future.

What are the special features? :
In Sketchup you need tools because it a designing programme. There are shapes, rotating tools, shiff pad, pencil, pull out box, erasure, selector, free hand and measuring tape. All of these tools are used for drawing and designing.

How do you use it ? :
You can use Sketchup on your device, computer, ipad and netbooks. You mostly need to use internet to get on Sketchup. Some people in our class has Sketchup on their netbook, because they use a downloading programme. We also have sketchup on our I mac (computers). You will need a keyboard and  a mouse to control drawing your design.

Sketchup is really cool to use. Try sketchup it’s the best designing programme that I’ve use.

Here's a screen shot of my Sketchup.
